The Assassin – Part 2

(Part 1 can be found here)

Tain picked up her post again the next day, two letters. One got shredded almost immediately while the other contained three pages of instructions. Tain read through the words over and over to get her head around what she needed to do. It was complicated and specific. She could see hundreds of better ways that this could be done but these were specific instructions. Tain wasn’t going argue with the £500k that had just been put into her account.

She had little time to lose; this would have to take place the following day in south London. There was just enough time to do some research before heading off to gather her equipment. She would have to pick up a ceremonial knife somewhere along her route; it had been left for her. She would also have to undertake some sort of creepy ritual. It all seemed like a lot of hard work but she was confident that she could get it done without getting caught.

Tain wasn’t one to dismiss rituals and spirituality but she had a feeling that she’d only be undertaking a ritual to throw the police off the scent. It didn’t bother her at least this would be interesting. She headed to a small bar to overlook the document once again before she would go and pick up the weapon she’d been asked to commit the murder with. The glass of whiskey she nursed for an hour was much welcomed. She wasn’t exactly warm even in this crowded bar. She was actually dreading heading out into the cool London air to find what she needed to find. A series of cryptic clue would lead her to the knife.

Time was running out and Tain couldn’t really put it off much longer, she needed to pick up the murder weapon and get on with her job for the evening.

The clues didn’t give her much trouble and Tain could tell that someone had put a lot of thought into them. They’d been designed to be very difficult, to send her round the houses before she eventually worked out where she had to go. These people hadn’t banked on her being as clever as she was.

The sun was setting and it was getting colder. Tain, armed with a back full of supplies, made her way to a small apartment block. Apparently this gentleman lived alone but that didn’t necessarily mean he’d be alone. Swiftly she moved through the hall of the building and up two flights of stairs. She stood silently outside the door to the flat for a few moments. There was no sound coming from inside.

A quick pick of the lock and she was in. The lights were on and the target was clearly home. It didn’t take long for Tain to be faced with a startled homeowner. She pulled out the ceremonial knife and drove it straight through his heart. There were a few more steps to this ritual. Within her bag were candles, dried herbs and incense.

She’d only managed to light one of the candles next to the dead man’s body before she heard the sirens. A quick peek out of the window revealed a small army of police storming into the building. Fuck.
