I love going on road trips and I’ve crafted a life for myself where I get to go on the regularly, both for work and play. Last year I became the first person to drive Route 57, the UK and Ireland’s answer to Route 66, and this year I drove around Croatia and Bosnia in a beautiful Audi hired from Sixt.
When I road trip, there’s often a lot of stops, a lot of weather and a lot of outfits but beauty products are a must-have if you want to keep fresh, looking good and feeling wonderful. Here are my road trip beauty must-haves.
Something that you’ll put on every day that will protect you from the sun. Top up throughout the day, especially if you’re somewhere really warm. I use a nice No7 moisturiser but any good anti-ageing product should have a decent SPF. 15+ is what you should be looking for.
Quickly remove makeup, freshen up before having your photo taken, and cool down in hot weather. Always keep some face wipe to hand in your car as they have a number of uses!
Dry hair shampoo
The easiest way to freshen up your look between washes. Volume boosting varieties are great for flat hair days. I usually use Batiste.
I absolutely swear by the contouring pencils from Smashbox as make contouring quick and easy, perfect when you’re on a tight schedule and need to hit the road.
One great palette
I usually take two palettes with me but if you’re stuck for space, I’d recommend getting a good all-rounder depending on the kind of eyeshadow you usually use. I’m really fond of the Naked 3 palette from Urban Decay. You can create a wide range of looks from it but a lot of the pale colours can be used for highlighting too
The perfect lipstick
This Dior Addict Lip Glow Balm is my favourite thing. It works with the colour of your lips to create the perfect shade. It’s amazing, subtle and works with every look.
When I did Route 57, I went for eyelash extensions so on the days I didn’t have time for a full face of makeup, I still looked like I was rocking an epic eyelash game.
For exactly the same reason as the eyelash extensions, gel nails meant I had one whole beauty routine I could cut out during the trip. I’m trained in OPI gel nails but so is my mum so I always let her work her magic before I set off.
