A simple way to sell your fashion designs online

OneNear - Everyone's Marketplace

For fashion designers starting out it can be difficult to find the capital to build an all-singing, all-dancing ecommerce site. There are a number of ways to get around this but most still charge you monthly or set up fees. Not what you need when you want the money up front to create something beautiful.

Enter This website has a number of uses, from finding someone to do your gardening to buying products and services.

The site is pretty new but if you’re looking for a platform on which to sell your wares, this is it. The site is a beautiful combination of a sales platform and social network. Users are encouraged to leave reviews, choose favourite shops and share to social media.

The registration process

It’s free to register and every shop owner has to go through a vetting process. (Great news for customers as it’ll cut down on fraudulent shop keepers!) The vetting process for me was quite simple. All I had to do was pop in my name, address and date of birth and I was good to go. If there’s some problem with the online ID, all you need to do is scan and upload a driving license/bank statement or similar.

It took about 10 minutes for me to input all the information.

Your shop front

Creating Conversations

You can choose how your shop front looks with colours, images and layouts. For fashion designers, there’s a more visual layout that would be perfect. You can let your customers know why they should choose you, share photographs and create listings for everything you want to sell.

So it’s free?

To sign up, yes. The only fees you’ll have to pay are on the items you sell. When you create a listing it makes it very clear how much you’ll get from a sale. This allows you to tailor your prices accordingly.

How to get people to buy

Here you have to employ your entrepreneurial skills. Tell your friends, share to social media (straight from your shop front) and perhaps even send press releases to the local media. There’s also a built in messaging system so you can simply and easily answer any questions you might have about a product. This is also a good chance to let the customer know why they should buy from you.

I wanted to give you a bit of an insight into and the thinking behind it.

Richard Foster, CEO of said: “Our aim is to rekindle commerce within local communities and create a new marketplace for services that have been lost with the demise of the High Street, empowering people to make a living doing what they enjoy. I believe that anyone can be an entrepreneur but the first steps are often the hardest; there isn’t anything like OneNear in the market and we want to support enterprising individuals.”
