Considering Ben and I have just got back from a really crazy road trip (we drove to Sweden in one day to transport two cats to their new home), it just made sense to be part of this competition from Money Supermarket.
Here’s my ultimate driving playlist accompanied by some photos from the trip.
Wanted Dead or Alive – Bon Jovi
I think we can pretty much classify this as mine and Ben’s song. It’s our karaoke masterpiece, featured in our favourite TV show and generally makes us a feel a bit rock and roll.
This photo was taken on the ferry from Denmark to Germany. For a ‘selfie’, I think it’s beautiful.
Lay it on the Line – Triumph
Another great rock song. When driving, I like to be able to sing until my throat hurts, this song contributes quite heftily to that.
Walking cats in Germany. It’s how I roll.
My Hero – Foo Fighters
We have one song that goes on every playlist. This is it. Quite mellow but a good sing-along-song.
The beautiful Ben on the shores of Landskrona, Sweden as we watched the sun go down.
Go Your Own Way – Fleetwood Mac
I’ve recently got into Fleetwood Mac after hearing the new album (yes, yes, a bit behind on this…). I love the music. I need more Fleetwood Mac in my life.
Obligatory shoe shot but this time… over Danish waters!
Every Inch of You – The Darkness
This song brings out the rock animal in me. It’s the perfect running song. Perfect driving song. Perfect in pretty much every way.
Benj standing in the light at Cologne’s cathedral.
Gambling Man – The Overtones
A song that gives me constant inspiration. It’s bouncy, fun and great for singing loudly to.
Theodora, safely transported 986 miles to her new home in Sweden.
Dog Days are Over – Florence and the Machine
I don’t know why I like this song so much. I love Florence and this song reminds me of our first big road trip across the USA. It made sense to have it for Sweden too.
Shadow, looking mightily unimpressed with her travelling conditions.
Wonderboy – Tenacious D
Ben and I like sing-songing along together in the car. This is a good one for that.
Another Ben silhouette. This time against the Landskrona sunset. Sweden, doing sunsets very, very right.
Empty Tank – Jesse James
This song is all about spending time in a car on long journeys. It also features the A11, a long stretch of road leaving Norwich that took us on a small part of our trip. Ska beats, Norfolk references and some serious nostalgia make this song awesome.
Waiting for the ferry on the way to Denmark. No make-up, that’s how I roll on road trips.
Killer Queen – Queen
Turn it up to 11 and belt this one out. You’ll soon realise why it’s an awesome driving song.
The Outsiders – NEEDTOBREATHE
A band I’ve discovered very recently. I know nothing about them other than the fact that I need to know more. Guitars, great lyrics and rousing climaxes. (You heard me.)
Landskrona is pretty special. The sunsets were fab, there are statues and canons along the water and the allotments are hard to describe. So wonderful. It’s also so quiet.
For those of you with Spotify, here’s our actual Sweden playlist.
