Don’t Lose Your Grip

8 Mar

I wanted to let you all know about Don’t Lose Your Grip, what they are trying to do is promote a healthy body images and raise some cash for suicide prevention and eating disorder charities.

I feel like this needs to be brought to your attention, the fashion industry is rife with eating disorders and models who promote a very unhealthy body image. The media doesn’t help, it tries to dictate to us what is normal and what is healthy and that leads to a lot of people losing self confidence.

In July Don’t Lose Your Grip will be holding a fashion show. It will promote real people, great clothes and there will be some music to go along with it. All this will be taking place in Liverpool. All the proceeds from the show will go to charity.

There’s loads of way you can get involved. The below is taken from http://dontloseyourgrip.chrisselle.com/

Okay, now the ways you can get involved are as follows;

  • Model; You can participate in the fashion show and photo shoot, in which you will be wearing custom made pieces designed by myself. Now, if you’re sitting there thinking “I’m not model material” I want you to stop it. Because what I mean by ‘model’ is ‘role model’ I want real models. Which means anyone. Of course there is a limit on how many models we will be needing, this is something that I still have to think about as it will depend on the venue and of course, how many people are interested.
  • Band or Solo Artist; Okay, now as you know I’m hoping to also hold a charity concert alongside the fashion show. For this I need bands and or solo artists. I need people that will understand that it’s a charity show and we don’t have a huge budget. But, this is all for everyone to enjoy, and it could be the perfect oppertunity for an underground band. This is a way to get your voices heard. All you have to do is send me a sample of the kind of music you play and I’ll get back to you with if you’re suitable or not.
  • Behind the scenes; You can of course just help out behind the scenes, and by that I mean before the event and also at the event. If you would like to promote us, just give me an email and I’ll get back to you with all the information you need. We also need sponsers so if you can think of someone that would sponser the project please let us know and we shall try our best to get a bigger budget.

Jet loves leopard wedges

2 Mar

IMG_8335During Norwich Fashion Week I saw the most amazing pair of shoes on a model who was strutting her way down the catwalk. I said to Ali, who was sitting next to me, that they were the perfect shoes. The shoes I’d been searching for all my life (more or less). These simple leopard wedges were everything I wanted.

After the show I declared my love on Twitter. Not long after did I get a message from @VanillaNorwich saying that the shoes could be bought in their shop. After a very long day of going to a writing course and getting a massage in North Norfolk I drove all the way back to Norwich to get my mits on those shoes (to then drive all the way back to Mundesley again…)

Vanilla is an amazing shop on Sprowston Road, just five or ten minutes from where I live. I walked in, made a beeline for those shoes. They were even more exquisite in real life. I asked to try and seven and an eight, they only had a seven, I thought my life was over.

But the sevens fit – even with my ridiculous furry socks on – so I said I’d have them.

Then came some of the best customer service I’ve ever received. I mentioned how I wanted an outfit to wear to my boyfriend’s mum’s birthday that evening. I stepped into the dressing room, with my shoes, and was then handed item after item to try on. The first few weren’t to my taste, too baggy and not colourful enough. This was taken on board and I was handed a sheer shirt and a long tank top. This combination with a skinny waist belt was gorgeous. Pair that with the shoes and some dark tights and I had an outfit.

I left that shop £167 poorer but I feel good to have supported a local business and landed myself with shoes of all wonderfulness.

Norwich Fashion Week starts here!

17 Feb

It is the launch party for Norwich Fashion Week tonight at The Library Restaurant. M’Colleague, Furious Dee, was rather helpful in telling me exactly what to wear so the hour I have to get ready will be cut down significantly.

As this is the first NFW, I have no idea what to expect. Myself and Alex (off of Bunn the Baker) will be glammed up to the eyeballs wearing a quirky mix of prints and colours (presumably, all I’ve seen of her HANDMADE dress is the fabric!) and we will be ready to rock.

All the tickets for tonight’s even are sold out but there’s loads more going on over the next week. For the full list of what’s happening please visit the Norwich Fashion Week website.

Expect loads of pictures and excited ramblings over the weekend. I’ll probably be tweeting from the cat walk so follow me on Twitter – @jetlbomb. And look out for the hashtag #NFW!

I’m a ‘fashion insider’ according to the Telegraph

10 Feb

Yesterday I got a message on Twitter saying ‘well done’ and then a link. I clicked, only to find that I’m listed 49th as a fashion insider on Twitter. And that’s according to the Telegraph.

I’m happy. It’s nice to know I have a little bit of sway over the fashion world.
