Finding freebies at shows
All these big shows like Decorex, Grand Designs, Moda UK and Pure London are a treasure trove for freebies. Lesmar makes some amazing promotional products that can often be seen at shows and events. You could get your hands on bags, books, clothing and pens. Maybe even more.
I’ve been to shows and have been given some amazing promotional tote bags, some of which I still use to this day. Here are the tips and tricks to gathering the most from a show.
- Start by visiting the stands you really want to see. If they do have any goodies to give away then it’s likely that all the good stuff will be gone by the afternoon so get there early
- Engage with people on the stand, find out about what they are doing, why they are there and if they are offering any special discounts for products bought on the day.
- Be interested. Don’t go to a show with the view to get lots of free stuff because not all of it will be useful, pretty or any good.
- Be happy to promote. If you pick up some promotional clothing, like a t-shirt, are you going to wear it? You will be giving that brand some free advertising. Find companies that you love and support. Getting a free t-shirt from them will feel even better!
- Be cheeky. If you don’t ask you won’t get. If you’ve created a rapport ith someone on a stand then you might be able to get away with asking if they have any freebies to give away.
- Enter competitions. There will surely be loads of people standing around with clipboards asking you to enter competitions. Just for entering you might get something. If you don’t then you could win something amazing!
Watch yourself…
I never wear a watch and I have no idea why. Maybe if I did I wouldn’t get everywhere so damn early. For the purposes of this post I’m borrowing images from Time2 so I can dribble over their pretty products and wonder if I really do need a watch or if it’s another whim. They sell men’s watches and ladies’ watches.
This Welder K29 8003 Chronograph Black and White Mens Watch is a gadget-lover’s dream. It’s got loads of buttons multiple clock faces. It was originally designed for divers so all the buttons are positioned to free up the diver’s hands. It’s also water resistant up to 100m.
I love Marc Jacobs watches and this white one is a perfect example. It’s chic and beautiful with that little touch of colour that makes it exciting.
For as long as I’ve known I’ve wanted a D&G watch, there’s something unashamedly chavvy about them. They’ve got glitz and glamour written all over them but some of them are quite simple and chic in design while retaining that slightly edgy look that I really love.
The I-Gucci collection from Gucci is charming and modern. I much prefer digital watches because they’re easier to tell the time on but often they look dated and remind me of those huge, awful watches from the 90s. Gucci have done digital perfectly. I don’t care if this is a man’s watch. I-Want.
I think designer watches are worth the investment. I’ve on;y had one watch that I’ve ever really, really loved but it was cheapish (£69) and all the diamanté bits fell out, the clasp broke and then it stopped. I’m going to save my pennies for that Gucci watch.
Don’t Lose Your Grip
I wanted to let you all know about Don’t Lose Your Grip, what they are trying to do is promote a healthy body images and raise some cash for suicide prevention and eating disorder charities.
I feel like this needs to be brought to your attention, the fashion industry is rife with eating disorders and models who promote a very unhealthy body image. The media doesn’t help, it tries to dictate to us what is normal and what is healthy and that leads to a lot of people losing self confidence.
In July Don’t Lose Your Grip will be holding a fashion show. It will promote real people, great clothes and there will be some music to go along with it. All this will be taking place in Liverpool. All the proceeds from the show will go to charity.
There’s loads of way you can get involved. The below is taken from http://dontloseyourgrip.chrisselle.com/
Okay, now the ways you can get involved are as follows;
- Model; You can participate in the fashion show and photo shoot, in which you will be wearing custom made pieces designed by myself. Now, if you’re sitting there thinking “I’m not model material” I want you to stop it. Because what I mean by ‘model’ is ‘role model’ I want real models. Which means anyone. Of course there is a limit on how many models we will be needing, this is something that I still have to think about as it will depend on the venue and of course, how many people are interested.
- Band or Solo Artist; Okay, now as you know I’m hoping to also hold a charity concert alongside the fashion show. For this I need bands and or solo artists. I need people that will understand that it’s a charity show and we don’t have a huge budget. But, this is all for everyone to enjoy, and it could be the perfect oppertunity for an underground band. This is a way to get your voices heard. All you have to do is send me a sample of the kind of music you play and I’ll get back to you with if you’re suitable or not.
- Behind the scenes; You can of course just help out behind the scenes, and by that I mean before the event and also at the event. If you would like to promote us, just give me an email and I’ll get back to you with all the information you need. We also need sponsers so if you can think of someone that would sponser the project please let us know and we shall try our best to get a bigger budget.
