Jet loves leopard wedges

2 Mar

IMG_8335During Norwich Fashion Week I saw the most amazing pair of shoes on a model who was strutting her way down the catwalk. I said to Ali, who was sitting next to me, that they were the perfect shoes. The shoes I’d been searching for all my life (more or less). These simple leopard wedges were everything I wanted.

After the show I declared my love on Twitter. Not long after did I get a message from @VanillaNorwich saying that the shoes could be bought in their shop. After a very long day of going to a writing course and getting a massage in North Norfolk I drove all the way back to Norwich to get my mits on those shoes (to then drive all the way back to Mundesley again…)

Vanilla is an amazing shop on Sprowston Road, just five or ten minutes from where I live. I walked in, made a beeline for those shoes. They were even more exquisite in real life. I asked to try and seven and an eight, they only had a seven, I thought my life was over.

But the sevens fit – even with my ridiculous furry socks on – so I said I’d have them.

Then came some of the best customer service I’ve ever received. I mentioned how I wanted an outfit to wear to my boyfriend’s mum’s birthday that evening. I stepped into the dressing room, with my shoes, and was then handed item after item to try on. The first few weren’t to my taste, too baggy and not colourful enough. This was taken on board and I was handed a sheer shirt and a long tank top. This combination with a skinny waist belt was gorgeous. Pair that with the shoes and some dark tights and I had an outfit.

I left that shop £167 poorer but I feel good to have supported a local business and landed myself with shoes of all wonderfulness.

Girl About Town

4 Feb

I was feeling a little rubbish last Friday, that was until Ben invited me to the pub with him and a few of his work mates. I got home early so I took my time overdressing for a trip to the pub and playing with the cat.

The dress is a 50s style skull print wrap dress off of Vivien of Holloway. It’s tight and it makes me look wonderfully wasp waisted. I’m not posting the full body shot I took as I was too lazy to use my tripod and thus opted for the mantlepiece. Suffice to say the shot was shit so you get a picture of me huddled up fussing Captain Tuesday. Probably not all that flattering either but it’s the best I could do and you get the idea.

I wanted to take this opportunity to write a little about MAC’s Girl About Town Lipstick. It’s the brightest I’ve been able to find and I love it. I bought this when I was in Toronto last year but it’s available here. It’s quite a pricey lipstick at £13.50 but it’s got some serious staying power.

It’s bright and it’s gorgeous. I always get a lot of compliments about this lipstick – although I suppose most of those are from people shocked to see lips brightening up the streets of Norwich. It is easy to apply and I haven’t found any bleeding with it (but then I suspect I wouldn’t without any lip lines to speak of.) I didn’t use lip liner (mainly because I don’t know how to or how to find the correct shade…)

It lasts ages, I only had to reapply once on this night out and that was after eating.

The downsides are that it hurts, it makes my lips so dry, even after exfoliating and pretty much drowning my lips in lip balm beforehand. The fact that it stays on so well is also a double-edged sword. At the end of the night no amount of scrubbing and makeup wiping would get it off. I eventually gave up and went to bed.

It was still there in the morning so I got to go on a Geocaching walk with my mum while still looking pink-lipped and glam. It wore off fairly evenly so the stain didn’t look too bad although I did end up applying another lipstick over the top later on.

My favourite blogs

5 Oct

There are a number of blogs that I read on a daily basis. Take a look at some of them below. Click on the screen shots to go through to their site.

Gemfatale

I think I check Gem’s site more than once a day. While with most other blogs I find that it’s only some of the posts that are of any interest to me, Gem’s posts are all great. Especially her Tuesday Tips!

LLMLRS

A newer addition to my reading list, thanks to SeraLuxe – below. Lily has a fantastic style and she pulls it off using high street clothing. It’s nice to see someone stylish who isn’t relying on hugely expensive clothes. This blog is definitely worth a scroll through if you are looking for outfit inspiration.

SeraLuxe

The outfit posts, photography, layout. I really love everything about this blog. Sera’s writing style is very endearing.

Vint Junky

I love this blog simply because of the outfit posts. Most of them use vintage paired with highstreet. Each look is perfectly constructed.

Emerald Green

A genuine, brilliant beauty blog. All about Laura’s personal beauty finds. She has a talent for make up and her FOTDs inspire me greatly!

Alexa Heinrich

Each post Alexa does is brilliant. The reviews and tutorials are indepth, detailed and informative.

London Beauty Queen

Another fantastic beauty blog. LBQ has amazing giveaways as well as brilliant product reviews.

Retro Chick

A fellow Norwich blogger who knows all about retro style. If it wasn’t for this blog then I’d never be able to fill my social calender. The comprehensive list of events happening in my area is brilliant. Not to mention to amazing photography and witty writing.

Worklook

Firstly the makeup. Body shop shimmer cubes using the peach and green on my upper lid. (More about these at another time.) Then under my eye the green Blingtones eyeshadow from myface.cosmetics (<333 – more about these next week!) Then topped off with Barry M eyeliner, a bit of eyelash curling and some mascara.

I like this, it is simple yet glittery.

The outfit.

Black jumper dress that I bought years ago and alays felt terribly fat in. Paired with this skinny belt I still felt a bit fat however, I felt good. My legs look good in this picture too.

Maybe I should set up my tripod and camera in the dressing room at home so you aren’t all subject to iPhone photos…
